(STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN) —We are very proud to have been elected to contribute with our knowledge to the University of Gothenburg Blockchain Labs, says Peter Jidesten, CEO of iDefendo. We are delighted and look forward to working with an institution that is itself leading the blockchain research for the public sector, he continues.
The University of Gothenburg Blockchain Lab (BLAB) in Sweden is an internationally recognized educational and research group focusing on blockchain implementations, especially in public-sector contexts combining digital innovation, organizational and design perspectives.
BLAB offers a joint platform for industry-academic collaboration surrounding blockchain technologies and their application that allows researchers and students affiliated to University of Gothenburg, Applied IT, Informatics and the Swedish Center for Digital Innovation to work with blockchain projects.
The Blockchain Lab is directed by Dr. Juho Lindman, an associate professor of informatics in the Department of Applied IT at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
The requirement for this procurement covered a blockchain tool to be developed in collaboration with a selected partner with an understanding of blockchain-based infrastructure, design of blockchain applications, project management and research projects, especially in the public sector blockchain infrastructure.
—In order to be a supplier for an EU funded project like this you need to fit certain criteria, where price of course is not unimportant, but more importantly the quality of the solution and the skills of the persons who will be involved in this project are equally important. This is why we selected iDefendo for this project, says Dr. Juho Lindman.
During 2020, Lindman co-authored the OECD working paper on public governance, The Uncertain Promise of Blockchain for Government. The report provided an overview and some lessons learned from the early blockchain pilots in the public sector.
—In the private sector, blockchain has already demonstrated disruptive potential through proven use cases. However, despite strong interest and greater awareness, blockchain has had minimal impact on the public sector, where few projects have moved beyond small pilots. This is why we wanted to investigate how we can use a blockchain solution at our university. We want to research, try and learn how we can reap the benefits of this technology in a university setting. We look forward to working with the iDefendo experts on this, says Juho Lindman.
The funding of this project comes from BLING – Blockchain IN Government (BLING) within the European region development fund Interreg North Sea Region.
